Overview

Language barriers are a leading stressor in the healthcare field. Hospitals and individual providers alike are required to provide language assistance at no cost to the patient. Their are a multitude of tools to help surmount a language barrier, but they are all time consuming and relatively expensive to use. CMS is requiring (and defining) broader use of language and cultural assistance beginning in January 2012.

Solution

BiMedical.net is a simple to use tool that gathers core healthcare information autonomously from patients. Delivered via a web interface, the application generates bilingual questionnaires that can be quickly printed and filled out by the patient. A patient can fill out the questionnaire in 3 minutes or less and a provider can review it in less than 1 minute. To transfer the same amount of information with an interpreter would take approximately 10 minutes.

Implementation

BiMedical.net is operational and available for use. Conversion to iPhone and iPad applications is underway with a planned integration with an interpreter service that will allow a combination approach to obtaining the best information possible from a patient with a language barrier.
